Child Custody and Support

Parents or guardians in Missouri can have physical and legal custody of the children.

Physical custody means when you actually have the child physically with you.  The preference in Missouri is for joint physical custody, which does not mean equal sharing of physical time.

Many people see the words "joint physical custody" and come to the conclusion that that must mean both parents must have the children with them 50% of the time.  It does not mean that.  It means that each parent will have a significant amount of time with the children.  Parents often share physical custody of their children based on their work schedules.  Sometimes, though, the parents need additional help in arriving at a schedule.

The lawyers at the Earnshaw-Hobbs Law Firm can assist you in setting up a physical custody schedule that works for you.

Legal Custody is the right to make decisions for your children.  It covers all the decisions that parents make every day, such as where the kids go to school, where they receive medical care, and where they go to church.  In Missouri the law recognizes that it is usually best for the children for both parents to be involved in these decisions.

Not every case is right for joint legal and joint physical custody.  Call today and a lawyer at the Earnshaw Hobbs Law Firm, PC will discuss your case with you.
